Scholarship overview

The Netflix scholarship scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance through full scholarships to partner higher education institutions in South Africa, as listed below, to support the formal qualification and training of aspiring black creatives in the disciplines of film and TV.

In early 2021, Netflix announced its commitment to supporting black representation in the film and TV industry for the creative ecosystem in South Africa. South Africa to support the formal qualification and training of aspiring black creatives in film and TV disciplines.

Netflix partnered with social investment fund management and consulting firm Tshikululu Social Investments as an implementation partner / fund manager, with the responsibility to successfully execute the project.

Course/Field of study

Postgraduate Progamme. One-year studies in Film, Television and/or audio-visual related qualification. And Undergraduate academic average of 60% minimum, must have completed between the years 2019 and 2021.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Graduate students seeking one-year graduate studies in Film, Television and/or audiovisual-related qualifications at one of the institutions mentioned above.
  2. Black students, as defined by the B-BBEE Code of Conduct (Black, Brown or Indian).
  3. Only South African citizens considered.
  4. Academic graduation average of at least 60%, must have completed between 2019 and 2021.
  5. Self-funded students (students who have another grant or NSFAS funding are not eligible).
