Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Program (LExS) is open to non-EEA/non-EFTA students who enroll in a full-time Master’s program at Leiden University.

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship lexs consist of 3 awards which are:
€ 10.000 of the tuition fee
• € 15.000 of the tuition fee
• Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee.
The LExS is not a full scholarship. Non-EEA LExS recipients must still provide “proof of sufficient funds” for the student visa/residence permit.
1 Feb for programmes starting 1 Sept / 1 Oct for programmes starting 1 Feb.
Students must have achieved excellent study results in their previous education, which is relevant to the Master’s program for which they are applying. As an indication, the student is among the top 10% graduates in his/her previous study program.
No proof of classification is required – this information is only to indicate the level of competitiveness.
Applicants must have a non-EEA/non-EFTA passport* and may not be eligible for support under the Dutch Scholarship and Loan System (Studiefinanciering) – with the exception of students applying for LLM or advanced study programs to a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, for which no nationality restrictions apply.

How to Apply for Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Lexs
Applicants must first apply online for admission to a master’s program at Leiden University. In your application, you must clearly indicate that you would like to apply for the LExS Scholarship in the Scholarships section and submit your letter of motivation for the LExS Scholarship.
The deadline for programs starting in September is February 1 (Exception – Advanced LLMs: March 1), while programs starting in February have a deadline of October 1st.
