Steps get back your money from an online scammer easily

The recent increasing rate of online scams is alerming, anyone could be a victim.
This post will walk you through easy steps to get every dime your online scammer collected from you. This is negative news on the side of of all the online scammers in Nigeria, and a win to to their victims.

About 60% of online users, especially those on social media at a point in time has been defrauded. While about 20% are professional scammers.

People are getting scammed on a daily basis. The good news is, there is a way to get back your money after it has been transferred to your scammer’s bank account.

Steps to get back your money after online scam


Below are tips to recover your money after you have been scammed online;

1 Take a screenshot of all your chats with the scammer (on WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram or other)

  • Get the scammers social media username or phone number.
  • Write out the bank account number and account name of the scammer you sent the money.
  • Go to the debit notification that your bank sent to you after you made the payment, and write down the Transaction ID Number.

  • Visit the scammers bank branch and file a report to them.
  • Ensure you print out all the chats you had with the scammer and submit it to the bank.
  • send an e-mail to the scammers bank reporting the case. Whilst send a copy of the e-mail to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Fraud Desk.
  • After composing the email to be sent to the scammer’s bank, At the end the mail, add CC: anticorruptionunit@cbn.gov.ng to let the bank know CBN has also got complaints. This would make the scammers bank take up case serious.

Note:
1. All Banks e-mail address can be found through Google search.
2. The CBN Fraud Desk email address is
anticorruptionunit@cbn.gov.ng.

After report has been received, The scammer’s bank account will be frozen and place on No debit (they cannot withdraw or transfer from the account).
When such happens, the scammer visit his/her bank to know what is wrong. The bank will contact police and the suspect will be arrested.

If proven guilty, the scammer will be asked to sign a waiver authorizing his/her bank to refund the money to you.

After a refund has been made, the police may charge the scammer to court or hand over him/her to higher authorities. such as the economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC). or criminal investigation department (CID).
